Marciano Vidal, a Redemptorist missionary and expert in Moral Theology, reflects on the first ten years of 'Amoris Laetitia', the exhortation from Pope Francis. He believes it has provided a pastoral solution to the serious situations faced by Catholic couples who were unable to receive communion. Vidal, who has taught at various institutions, noted that there was a lack of appreciation among some moral theologians for the papal text which had faced harsh criticism, including from cardinals.

He sees the upcoming gathering of all presidents of episcopal conferences in Rome as a good opportunity to address this oversight. Regarding the reception of 'Amoris Laetitia' in Hispanic theological circles, he observes a generally positive trend.

However, he expressed regret that there wasn’t a more unified reaction from moral theologians immediately after its publication to highlight the theological value and pastoral relevance of the text against potential criticisms or doubts.
