The theme chosen by Pope Leon XIV for the 101st World Mission Day, which will be celebrated on Sunday, October 24, 2027, is "The love of Christ sends us." This theme refers to the very heart of the Christian mission: the love of Christ, embraced and lived, becomes a driving force to announce the Gospel and connect with every brother and sister. In the Message for the World Mission Day of 2026, the Holy Father reminded that "if unity is the condition of the mission, love is its essence". Indeed, the Church's mission arises from the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ, is nourished by the encounter with Him, and translates into a concrete testimony of fraternity, closeness, and service.

The love of Christ does not leave us indifferent; it urges us to step out of ourselves, to meet others, and, above all, to reach out to those who are alone, poor, or wounded. As preparation for the World Mission Day of 2027, the message of the Holy Father will be disseminated in the early months of the year, guiding the reflection, animation, and missionary formation of Christian communities.

In this endeavor, the four Pontifical Mission Works, Propagation of the Faith, Missionary Childhood, St. Peter Apostle, and Missionary Union, play an essential role in fostering the missionary awareness and responsibility of the baptized, from the youngest to the adults, and in promoting a universal network of prayer, formation, and charity in support of evangelization and young Churches. Each contributes, according to its specificity and all together, to promote the missionary spirit in the People of God and to support new particular Churches.
