The theme for the 101st World Mission Day, set by Pope Leo XIV, is "The Love of Christ Sends Us" (referencing: 2 Corinthians 5:14). This theme resonates with the core of the Christian mission: to receive and live out the love of Christ as the driving force for proclaiming the gospel and serving each brother and sister. The upcoming World Mission Day will take place on Sunday, October 24, 2027.

In the message for World Mission Day 2026, the Pope emphasized that "if unity is the condition for the mission, then love is its essence." The Church's missionary mission originates from the love revealed by God in Jesus Christ, nourished through encounters with Him, and manifested through concrete testimonies of friendship, care, and service. The love of Christ compels believers to step out of themselves and engage with others, especially those who are lonely, impoverished, and wounded.

An announcement from the Pontifical Council for Promoting the New Evangelization indicated that the Pope's message will be published in the first half of next year, guiding Christian communities in reflection, promotion, and nurturing of the missionary mission. Throughout this journey, four pontifical missionary societies, the Pontifical Mission Society, the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood, the Pontifical Society of St. Peter Apostle, and the Pontifical Missionary Union, play an indispensable role in fostering a missionary consciousness and responsibility among baptized individuals from children to adults. These societies collaborate based on their unique characteristics to contribute to the missionary spirit of God's people and support the establishment of new local churches.
