Pope Leo XIV has authorized the Dicastery for the Causes of Saints to promulgate a decree recognizing the heroic virtues of six servants of God, thereby conferring upon them the title of beatified. The decree was announced during an audience granted on Saturday, October 24, to Cardinal Prefect Marcello Semeraro. Among those beatified are two missionary bishops and four priests or religious figures, each having served in various parts of the world. The ceremony of beatification, which follows the recognition of heroic virtue, allows the faithful to venerate these individuals as blessed within the Church.

The decree confirms that their lives exemplified Christian holiness to a heroic degree, a necessary step toward possible canonization. The six newly beatified include Friedrich Kaiser Depel, a missionary bishop and founder of a religious congregation in Peru; Oreste Marengo, a Salesian bishop who served in India; Margarita Bavosi, a laywoman of the Focolare movement; Domenico Pogliani, a parish priest in Milan; Alessandro Vitetti, a priest in the diocese of Rossano-Cariati; and Daniele of San Giovanni Rotondo, a Capuchin friar. Each figure dedicated their life to pastoral service, education, and the spread of the Gospel, often in challenging or underserved regions.

Their beatification highlights the global reach of the Church’s mission and the diverse forms of holiness recognized by the Catholic Church. The decree underscores the Church’s ongoing process of discerning and honoring those whose lives reflect the teachings of Christ in exceptional ways. Further steps toward canonization may follow, pending the verification of miracles attributed to their intercession.
