Launch of Lay Education System Announced
A new system for ‘Lay Education’ was officially launched on October 27, 2026, aimed at addressing the challenges faced by rural churches and the shortage of educators in church education. The event took place at the General Assembly Hall, led by the Department of Education, with various church leaders in attendance.
During the opening worship service, led by the head of the education department, a sermon was delivered by the General Assembly President, emphasizing the importance of training lay leaders to revitalize Sunday schools amidst a declining population of school-age children and a significant shortage of ministry personnel.
The General Assembly President highlighted the pressing need for the church to develop devoted laypeople into professional educators, noting that this initiative is timely and crucial for the future of the church in the country. He expressed hope that the newly launched Lay Education system would serve as a springboard for nurturing the next generation within the denomination.
The launch ceremony continued with a welcome address from the head of the education department, who acknowledged the challenges faced in maintaining sustainable ministry even after training local church leaders. He clarified that, unlike other existing training programs, the new Lay Education system will focus on high accessibility through online methods and strong connections with local seminaries and churches.
In the final segment, a commissioning ceremony took place for the members and officers of the Future Education Committee, reinforcing the commitment to systematically train educational partners who can immediately support smaller churches facing educational gaps.
