Daily Word for October 4, 2026
On October 4, 2026, the Daily Word reflects on the Gospel passage from Matthew 21:33-43, 45-46, which recounts a parable told by Jesus to the chief priests and scribes. In this parable, a landowner establishes a vineyard and rents it out to tenants before traveling to a distant place. When the harvest time arrives, the landowner sends servants to collect his share of the fruits, but the tenants mistreat them.
They injure one servant, kill another, and stone a third. The landowner sends more servants, yet the tenants continue their violence. Finally, the landowner sends his son, believing they will respect him. Instead, the tenants plot to kill the son, hoping to seize the inheritance for themselves.
Jesus asks what the landowner will do upon his return, to which the listeners respond that he should punish the tenants and lease the vineyard to others who will produce fruit.
