# True Discipleship According to the Gospel

A new teaching on true discipleship has emerged, focusing on action and contemplation. The Gospel of Luke invites reflection on the memory of a key figure known for service, hospitality, and the desire to be at the feet of the Lord. The well-known passage recounts the story of two sisters, Martha and Mary, highlighting different approaches to serving Jesus.

In this Gospel, it is noted that "Martha received Jesus in her house. Mary, her sister, sat at the Lord's feet and listened to His word. Martha, however, was busy with many tasks." (Luke 10, 38-42) This account emphasizes the profound teaching on true discipleship, which requires depth in the heart. When discipleship lacks depth, there is no space for God to occupy the first place in one's heart. The contrast between action and contemplation is evident.

Jesus does not dismiss the importance of action, nor does He undervalue contemplation. Both elements must be united to achieve balance in spiritual life. From the beginning, two attitudes are observed in the presence of Jesus. Martha expresses her love through service by preparing her home to welcome the Master. Her work is good, necessary, and generous, yet the challenge arises when service prevents her from being with the One she serves.

The message encourages reflection on the time spent with God amidst serving Him. The struggle in true discipleship often lies in working too much for God while neglecting time with Him. A missionary life becomes empty when there is an imbalance of work and prayer. It is essential to integrate both aspects. Mary exemplifies the importance of focusing entirely on the Lord, showing that sitting at Jesus' feet to listen is vital.

What can be learned from Mary? The necessity of listening to the Word of God is paramount for a deep missionary life and true discipleship. It is essential to listen and be at the feet of Jesus. Ultimately, believers are encouraged to ask the Lord for the grace to work for Him while also being present with Him.

May the Lord assist us in living our lives for God and working for Him.
