# Religion in Freedom Awards to honor Pope's Spain trip organizers and five other initiatives

The ninth edition of the Religion in Freedom Awards will present five distinct honors at a ceremony scheduled for October 8. The recipients include the organizing committee for Pope Leo XIV's apostolic journey to Spain, the Llamados 2026 gathering, the Puy du Fou Spain attraction, the musical project titled You the Only King, and content creator Rene ZZ. The event aims to recognize individuals and institutions that contribute significantly to evangelization and the presence of Christian faith in society.

The Special Award of the Year will be granted to the committee that organized the Pope's visit to Spain from June 6 to June 12. The journey took the Pontiff to Madrid, Barcelona, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife. During the six-day trip, twenty-one events were held, and more than 2.5 million people participated. The effort involved the collaboration of more than 25,000 volunteers. The award is directed at the four dioceses that hosted the Pope and the Spanish Episcopal Conference.

The New Evangelization Award will go to Llamados 2026, an event that took place on January 12. The gathering brought together more than 6,000 people at the Movistar Arena in Madrid. The program featured music, testimonies, and prayer, culminating in the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Thousands of attendees observed silence in one of the capital's major concert venues.

The Image Arts Award has been given to Puy du Fou Spain. Since its opening in Toledo in 2021, the attraction has welcomed more than six million visitors. The jury specifically recognized its ability to bring the history of Spain to a broad audience while also showcasing its Christian roots.

The Catholic Music Award recognizes the project You the Only King. This initiative has united approximately 120 voices and nearly twenty Catholic music groups from across Spain. The song was presented during the Solemnity of Christ the King in 2025. It was also performed to a large crowd during Pope Leo XIV's visit to Barcelona.

The Audacity Before the World Award will be presented to Rene ZZ, also known as Rene Ponte. He is a content creator and tattoo artist who has gathered nearly two million followers on social media platforms. In recent years, he has begun to speak publicly about his conversion and his Christian faith to an audience that is largely distant from Catholic environments.

The ceremony will be held at the Auditorium of the CEU San Pablo University in Madrid. The event is expected to bring together representatives from the Church, culture, communication, and various evangelization initiatives. The awards are convened by the New Evangelization Foundation for the 21st Century, which publishes the digital daily Religion in Freedom. The foundation has a nineteen-year history and works in collaboration with the Angel Herrera Oria Cultural Foundation.
