# Pope receives Bob Dylan, chronicler of his generation

Pope León XIV met musician Bob Dylan at the Vatican on Wednesday. The Holy Father gifted a rosary to Dylan, who in return presented his autobiography 'Chronicles: Volume One'. The meeting between Pope León and Dylan, who wore a black hooded sweatshirt, was brief and included greetings and a few pleasant words, as detailed by Vatican News.

Dylan, who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2017, is currently on tour in Italy, with a stop in Rome. The tour 'Rough and Rowdy Ways' will also take him to Milan and Bologna. Pope León XIV had previously referenced some of Dylan's lyrics in July 2026 in the preface of the book 'Desarmados y desarmando: la paz es un don'. During that occasion, the Pope used a phrase from the American poet to issue a warning against global rearmament and nuclear weapons.

"I hate you because you are the work of man, the property of man, and managed by man," the Pontiff quoted from the protest song 'Go Away You Bomb', composed by the artist in 1963 during the height of Cold War tensions. This piece is unique, as the song was never officially recorded or included in any music album, and the original manuscript remained unpublished until its discovery in 2013, according to Vatican News.
