Pope Leo XIV's "Freedom Under Grace" Released in English

The English edition of Pope Leo XIV's book Freedom Under Grace: Reflections on the Spiritual Tradition That Formed Me was released on Tuesday, September 15, in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia. Freedom Under Grace compiles Leo XIV's reflections on the legacy of Saint Augustine, which has shaped his spirituality and worldview. As the first pope ever from the Augustinian order, the book is of particular interest to English-speaking readers, as it highlights the unique insights and perspectives of the church's first American pope, whose native language is English.

According to a press release from Penguin Random House, the book contains speeches, sermons, and personal texts from Father Robert Prevost's time as Prior General of the Augustinian Order and illustrates the "why" behind his contemplative approach to various issues. The future pope invites readers to sit at the table, as if they were amidst the events, and to follow his reactions to the time after September 11, emerging political ideologies, and the church's response to poverty and human rights conflicts.

Grounded in the works of Saint Augustine, whom he calls his spiritual father, Leo presents a vision of life rooted in community, solidarity, and service to marginalized groups.
