# Pope Leo XIV Emphasizes Peace and Balance for Civilization

Pope Leo XIV met with members of the organization "International Research Center - Pope Leo XIV," which was established in October 2025 within the Augustinian Monastery in Florence. The center responds to the Pope’s call to rediscover the value of the Church's social doctrine and to display responsible positions in public life by interpreting the transformations of the modern world. Since its founding, it has promoted research, educational activities, and interdisciplinary discussions on themes related to public life and international relations.

During his greeting to the attendees, the Pope expressed joy at the center's commitment to engage in broad dialogue with universities, academic institutions, public organizations, civil society, and Church organizations, promoting cooperation and exchanges both domestically and internationally. He reiterated the importance of encountering people with different ways of thinking, speaking, and acting, emphasizing the need to walk together.

The Pope highlighted that the center's location in Florence underscores a calling to humanistic values and an open vision toward the Creator. He stated that the creation of peace and a just balance, made possible by active participation of all social and cultural elements in an open society, weaves the fabric of civilization. He expressed a wish for the center’s hopeful mission to serve the public good in Italy and worldwide, aiming to build relationships based on responsibility, solidarity, justice, and peace while fostering educational initiatives for public and political life.

Additionally, the Pope anticipated that the underlying Augustinian thought of the center would provide many insights into understanding love as the principle of renewal in personal, economic, and political life in today’s international society. He emphasized, "Love connects, liberates, integrates, creates, engages, and builds up."
