# Pope Leo XIV Calls for Prayers Regarding Proper Use of Wealth

Pope Leo XIV has asked Catholics worldwide to join him in prayer during November for the correct use of wealth.

In a video released on Tuesday by the Pope Worldwide Prayer Network, Pope Leo XIV reminded believers that everything possessed comes from God. This includes talents, fertile land, and the labor of those who came before. He stated that nothing belongs solely to an individual, as everything is a shared gift.

The Pope noted that people often harden their hearts through the wealth they seek or find, leading to selfishness and the neglect of the most vulnerable. He asked for forgiveness for using things as a source of power instead of service, and for accumulating wealth rather than sharing it.

Referring to Jesus, the Pope stated that true wealth is found in what is given with love rather than what is kept. He asserted that a heart detached from material things transforms the world by opening paths to justice, tearing down walls of servitude, and creating hope for the poor.

Pope Leo XIV prayed that the Spirit would teach people to use money, time, abilities, and opportunities as means of brotherhood. He expressed that every community, family, or economic decision should come from a free heart that recognizes all things are for everyone, noting that a future can only be built through sharing.

He concluded by praying to be witnesses to wealth converted into mercy and service, so that lives connected to others may become signs of a kingdom of peace and justice.

The Pope Worldwide Prayer Network is a papal work entrusted to the Society of Jesus that began as an apostolate of prayer in 1844. Pope Francis established this pontifical work as the Vatican Foundation in December 2020 and approved its final statutes in July 2024. The network exists in more than 92 countries and forms a spiritual community of over 22 million people. Its central mission involves the monthly prayer intentions of the Pope, which call members to focus on major challenges facing the Church and humanity.
