According to a statement released by the Vatican Communications Office, sensational headlines and content designed to attract as many clicks as possible, known as "clickbait," do not reflect the essence of true communication.

The papal message highlights that communication is not merely about grabbing attention, but rather about "attention to the other and to the truth." Pope Leo XIV warned that the continuous flow of news and information may gradually replace search, reflection, and discernment. He called for the creation of spaces for silence, careful reading, study, and calm dialogue, indicating that the absence of these elements could affect a person's ability to maintain inner freedom and understand reality comprehensively.

The pope also addressed what is referred to as the "attention economy," where vast amounts of content compete for users' attention, even if only for a few seconds. He believes this reality impacts not only cognitive abilities but also the depth of relationships and communication among people. To tackle this issue, the pope urges a change in how we view the world and others, emphasizing a perspective based on care and love, and meeting others rather than judging them.
