# Pope Leo XIV Announces Lung Surgery During Angelus Prayer

Pope Leo XIV informed the faithful that doctors discovered a small nodule in his lung during recent medical examinations. The Pope stated that the nodule is in an early stage and that he has decided to undergo surgery in the coming days following the recommendations of his physicians. He expressed gratitude for spiritual closeness and stated his reliance on the prayers of the faithful.

During the Angelus prayer held on October 11 at Saint Peter's Square, the Pope spoke about the Gospel passage regarding a king preparing a wedding feast for his son. He noted that goodness naturally spreads and that happiness inspires people to share joy with others. He observed that while some guests in the parable refused the invitation or mistreated the messengers, the king did not cancel the celebration but instead invited more people from the streets.

Pope Leo XIV identified the characters of the story based on the teachings of Saint Jerome, stating that the king represents the Heavenly Father, the groom is Jesus, and the bride is the Church. He described the Church and the home as the wedding canopy where Jesus expresses his love. He asserted that Christian joy is deep, solid, and real, calling it a gift from God for the salvation of the world.

Regarding recent events, the Pope mentioned that Sister Maria Ignasia Isaki was declared blessed on Saturday in Mantua. He identified her as the founder of the Congregation of the Ursuline Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, noting her courageous assistance to the needy and deprived between the late 19th century and early 20th century.

Addressing international conflict, the Pope expressed concern for people suffering due to the war in Ukraine, particularly in the poorest countries that rely on grain imports. He made a heartfelt appeal to the parties involved in the war to allow the safe movement of grain through the Black Sea, stating that the livelihoods of millions cannot be held hostage by war.

Additionally, the Pope acknowledged the day in Italy dedicated to victims of workplace accidents. He offered congratulations to the national labor union for those with work related injuries and disabilities and encouraged efforts toward prevention. He concluded by greeting the people of Rome and pilgrims from around the world.
