# Papal Gospel Reflection for September 25, 2026

The first reading is from Proverbs 3,1-11, and the Gospel is from Luke 9,18-22. In the papal gospel reflection, before Peter made his confession of faith, Jesus posed an earlier question: "Who do the people say that the Son of Man is?" (Matthew 16,13 reference). There is an initial answer from the world, followed by responses from ordinary people. To them, the person from Nazareth is not a "boaster"; he is honest, courageous, and speaks righteously like the great prophets in Israel's history. Thus, they followed him as far as they could without significant risk or inconvenience.

However, because they regarded him merely as a human, during the perilous moment of his passion, they forsook him in disappointment. Today, Jesus is often highly regarded as a person but is reduced to merely a charismatic 'leader' or 'superman', not only among non-believers but also among many baptized individuals. Ultimately, they live as practical atheists on this level. This is the world entrusted to us. As Pope Francis has taught repeatedly, we are called to bear witness to the joyful faith in the Savior Christ in this world.

Therefore, it is essential for us to reflect on this confession of faith: "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God" (Matthew 16,16 reference). Above all, this must be put into practice in our personal relationship with the Lord, undertaking the daily journey of conversion. As the Church, we are to maintain our identity belonging to the Lord and proclaim the good news to all.
