Leon XIV greets pilgrims from Torun with their bishop

After the Sunday prayer Angelus, Leon XIV greeted the pilgrims from the Torun diocese along with their bishop. The Pope mentioned the tragedy of World War II and called for not repeating the mistakes of the past. He also appealed for assistance to the victims of violence in Somalia.

The dramatic situation in Somalia was addressed by Leon XIV, who began his speech by referencing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in some regions of Somalia, where acts of violence and extreme climate events worsen the already very difficult living conditions of the population, especially women and children. He expressed hope for generous commitment from the international community so that, as he said, our brothers and sisters do not lack essential aid.

In greeting the pilgrims who came for the collective prayer Angelus, Leon XIV addressed the Poles: "I warmly welcome the bishop and the faithful of the Torun diocese in Poland, who are visiting in Italy the places of eucharistic miracles." Leon XIV also greeted families arriving from the Spis diocese in Slovakia and the Jesuit fathers who are starting a new stage of studies in Rome.

The Holy Father blessed the residents of Pescantina near Verona, who gathered on Sunday at the Monument of Former Internees to commemorate all those who were deported and imprisoned during World War II. "I do this to emphasize that we must not forget, but we should learn from history so as not to repeat the mistakes of the past," stated Leon XIV.
