Jesus speaks of angels in this text, not only of physical sight but of true knowledge and understanding
Jesus spoke of angels in this text, not only of physical sight but of true knowledge and understanding. On the feast of the holy archangels, the evangelist John encourages us to look and see. This is not only about physical sight but about true knowledge and understanding. Jesus meets his disciples, sees them, and penetrates to their depths. He is not superficial.
He looks and sees our sincerity or pretense, our desires and unfulfillment. This feast falls on September 29, 2026. Jesus saw Nathanael approaching him and said of him, 'Look, here is a true Israelite in whom there is no deceit.' Nathanael said to him, 'How do you know me?' Jesus answered him, 'I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.' Nathanael answered him, 'Rabbi, you are the Son of God!
You are the King of Israel!' Jesus answered him, 'Because I said to you, I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.' Then he said to him, 'Very truly, I tell you, you will see heaven opened and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man.'
