Daily Gospel Reflection for October 18, 2026
On October 18, 2026, the Gospel reading is from Matthew 22:15-21. The Pharisees conspired to trap Jesus with questions about paying taxes. They sent their disciples along with members of the Herodian party to ask Him, "Teacher, we know that you are honest and teach the way of God in truth.
You do not show favoritism, so tell us your opinion: Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar?" Jesus, aware of their malice, replied, "You hypocrites! Why do you test me? Show me the tax coin!" They brought Him a denarius. Jesus asked them, "Whose image is this?
Whose inscription?" They answered, "Caesar's." He said to them, "Then give back to Caesar what is Caesar's, and to God what is God's!"
