# Catholic Church commission advances Brazil-Vaticia agreement awareness

A special commission for the Brazil-Vatican agreement held a meeting at the National Bishops' Conference headquarters in Brasília on Thursday, October 23. The commission president, Cardinal Paulo Cezar Costa, stated that it is necessary to make the agreement better known among the Church in Brazil. The group evaluated recent meetings and events and analyzed new goals set since the last session.

The cardinal has defended that the Brazil-Vatican agreement is fundamental to guarantee true state laicity and freedom for all religions, including the Catholic Church, so they can freely exercise religious activity and charitable actions.

According to the commission president, the group is attentive to points of the agreement that need to be put into practice. He said it is important to keep the memory of how it was built and existing publications. They are moving forward with joy.

Another challenge raised by the cardinal was to make the agreement more known and applied in dioceses and to begin discussion by lawyers and jurists in legal matters related to the Church.

One advancement noted by the commission was the holding of the II National Seminar on Catholic Cultural Heritage and the III Meeting of Catholic Cultural Equipment and Centers, organized by the Episcopal Commission for Culture and Education of the CNBB.

Held in the context of the Technical Cooperation Agreement between the CNBB and the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute, the events deepened the theme "Cultural goods of the Church and integrated management in service of evangelization."

The group also dedicated itself to management, the memorial book of the Brazil-Vatican agreement being systematized and edited, discussion on the need to organize a special archive with the memory of initiatives around the agreement, and to create a specific secretariat to work on agreement implementation. The next commission meeting will take place before the 63rd CNBB General Assembly.
