# Cardinal Hollerich comments on EU politician Schumann: "Could turn dreams into politics"

Cardinal Hollerich expressed his excitement about Leo visiting Metz, stating, "A city with a diverse history. Sometimes German, sometimes French. And also the place of Schumann. Schumann was the man who could turn dreams into concrete politics. We need that today." Hollerich noted that Pope Leo XIV has already presented a significant peace initiative from the Gospel during his pontificate, emphasizing the need for politicians who can translate this into concrete political actions. He mentioned, "This is a craft. We especially need young people who want to engage in politics and pursue this craft of peace and reconciliation in Europe."

Schumann, born and educated in Luxembourg, learned French there before studying in Germany and later becoming a politician in France. Hollerich remarked, "That is surprising. It is also surprising that he did not become a priest. He had a very ascetic priestly life. If you take the image of the priest of his time, Schumann fits relatively well into that. But he did not choose that because he discovered that his vocation was to serve God and people in politics. Thank God."

On Monday, Leo XIV will deliver a keynote speech on Europe at the Robert Schuman Congress Center, utilizing his five-day trip to France to send a message to the "old continent." Metz is the third and final stop of Leo's visit to France, following Paris and Lourdes.
