# Cardinal Grech opens second day of Amoris Laetitia gathering

Cardinal Mario Grech opened the second day of the Amoris Laetitia meeting on October 8 2026 in Vatican City. He said the encounter is a listening exercise to the echoes resonating in the life of the Church and in the hearts of families. He added that the meeting is a response to many echoes that pastors receive from various areas of ecclesial and human life. The event runs until October 14 2026 and includes Cardinal Filipe Neri Ferrão Archbishop of Goa and Damão India and Professor Vincenzo Rosito Vice Dean of the Pontifical John Paul II Theological Institute. Grech said the Gospel must inspire pastoral work and that every pastoral initiative finds its origin in the salvific message of Christ.

He noted that Amoris Laetitia continues to inspire reflection introspection and pastoral initiatives worldwide ten years after its publication. He highlighted the need to listen to how the synodal teaching has resonated in local Churches including paths taken fruits harvested difficulties encountered and remaining questions. Grech said diverse pastoral responses shaped by cultural contexts and ecclesial traditions enrich the common mission. He emphasized that families are examples of hope in difficult times and that their experiences of love forgiveness and daily commitment deserve gratitude. He noted that fidelity and fragility often intertwine in family history and that many families face economic uncertainty cultural pressures social fragmentation political instability wars and conflicts that separate loved ones and force displacement.

Grech called on the Church to listen to family difficulties and to ask how pastoral care can provide better support. He concluded that listening to the echo of the Gospel the echo of the Magisterium and the voice of families helps the Church recognize God's grace at work and respond to deep human aspirations.
