Bishop appeals for help for women facing prenatal diagnosis
A bishop appealed for help for women facing prenatal diagnosis. He wrote that he is aware that his words will not be approved by many groups, especially those that demand a change in the law and take to the streets of their cities. However, he said, he will not change his mind as a man and as a bishop of the church. He also said that he bows with great concern, respect, and empathy to every woman experiencing dramatic fear before the birth of her sick or unwanted child. He said that the steadfast defense of the life of the smallest does not mean insensitivity to their pain. He said that he has listened to more than two hundred confessions of women after abortion over the years.
He said that the tragedy of this irreversible step is painfully known to him. He said that he will always oppose this drama in the name of genuine concern for the well-being and safety of women. He said that convincing people of the alleged post-abortion relief is a deep distortion of reality. He said that a wound on the soul heals very slowly. He said that when a miscarriage prematurely takes away the expected little one, parents in pain cry, feeling with their whole being that they have lost a living, beloved person. He said that, however, when an unarmed life is taken away at the same stage of pregnancy, it is suggested to us that only a problem has been removed.
He said that our will does not have the magical power to create or take away someone's humanity. He said that in defense of reason, we cannot agree to this illogical split. He said that we must bring real rescue to frightened mothers, believing deeply that everyone can one day change their mind about abortion. He said that he prays today for a wise look at every life for all sides of this difficult dispute. He said that he also blesses with all his heart the groups demanding the protection of life.
