ABSTRACT: Reading classic fiction is an exercise both in reading and in being read. Great works of literature — commonly identified as classics because of their enduring longevity, distinct quality, and moral insight — have the power to capture readers’ attention, enrich their imagination, and form their character. Reading and understanding these works is, therefore, not only a matter of analysis but also of immersion, both a looking along and a looking at that is best undertaken in conversation
