I Thought I Was a Bad Christian — I Was Just Spiritually Exhausted

When I say, “I grew up in the church,” what I mean is that I literally grew up inside churches. I didn’t “go” to church. I lived there. And when I say, “I lived there,” I don’t mean I was there a lot; I mean I actually lived in them. Two of them. They were our legal address. I slept next to a copy machine. Church wasn’t so much what we did or where we went, but who we were. But to a lot of people in my world, I was just a sinner.A big, bad, rebellious, probably hell-bound sinner.Except I wasn’t.
